Shanghai EXPO

In the summer of 2010, a great event, which is held in Shanghai, has commanded the attention of the world. That is the Shanghai Expo. I can still remember the promise Shanghai made when bidding for the world exposition 2010, “Grant Us an Honor and China will Reward the World with more Splendor.” Today, we can witness together that the promise has been fulfilled wonderfully. When the dream finally came true after 100 years, everyone was mad with excitement. Both China and Shanghai have waited so long for this remote dream to com true. So let’s first recall the dream and find the ties between Shanghai and the Expo. Finally, I will recommend something special and interesting of the Expo.
Why do we call it a remote dream? Actually it was such a long dream that lasted for 100 years. Believe it or not, in 1910 someone predicted that China would hold a world exposition in Pudong, Shanghai in 100 years. LU Shi’e, which is a Shanghai-born novelist, wrote a fantasy novel called New China. As the Shanghai World Expo was going on, this book aroused great interest nationwide because The blueprint portrayed in the novel became real exactly after 100 years. In the book the author described a dream where an iron bridge crossed the Huangpu River and Shanghai hosted a successful World Exposition in the Pudong area, which was already as thriving as Puxi, trains were running underground. At that time, it was regarded as castle in the air. He said I would like to write it down as an evidence for the people in the future to see then. Surprisingly he was right!

Today, the expo is right there, lacing the Huangpu River with fantastic architecture and nightscape. It succeeded in attracting over 200 nations and 60 million people from all over the world.

Oil Pavilion
From my perspective, there is something to suit everyone’s taste in this grand exhibition. The exciting movie in the Saudi Arabia Pavilion and Oil Pavilion attracts thousands of hundreds of people every day to join the waiting queues. The business pavilions, such as Japanese Industry Pavilion, do well in not only promoting and advertising the business, but also bringing beauty and culture to the visitors. I really appreciate the originality of some pavilions like the "zero-carbon pavilion" and the pavilion of urban planet.  The theme of the "zero-carbon pavilion" is unpacking London. I love this design. Every exbit is presented in a suitcase, waiting for you to explore. The green roof plan demonstrates how to coordinate the relationship between high-density living , reducing carbon dioxide emissions and making every resident have their own hanging garden. In the pavilion of urban planet, you will find a flickering with each lamp representing one city. From them, you will have a vivid knowledge about the density of cities in the world and how cities are growing in the earth. The thrilling pictures of the water pollutions really impressed me and I felt in my heart that the unchecked growth and the overdevelopment of cities will possibly lead to the ruin of the earth.

Saudi Arabia Pavilion

Japan Pavilion

All in all, these high-tech and wonderful pavilions serve as platforms for people from different countries to know each other and to keep in touch with both historical and modern human civilizations. We also look to the future, wondering what will happen and how to make the only planet we have sustainable and bring happiness to every resident on the earth. Just like the famous slogan: “Everything stars with World Expo.”
